Careers

Careers – Shires MAT Personal Experiences

Our Trust Approach to Careers

Across Shires Multi‑Academy Trust, careers education is a core part of our Personal Experiences offer. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils, from the earliest years through to post‑16, are supported to raise aspirations, explore possibilities and make informed choices about their future.

Careers education is woven through pupils’ educational journeys and is carefully planned to ensure progression, relevance and equity. Our approach reflects the Trust belief that every pupil should understand how learning connects to the wider world and their future opportunities.

What Pupils Experience Across the Trust

Pupils across Shires MAT benefit from a progressive careers programme that includes:

  • Early exposure to different jobs and roles, beginning in primary phases
  • Encounters with employers, colleges, universities and training providers
  • Careers events that challenge stereotypes and promote ambition
  • Work‑related learning and meaningful workplace experiences
  • Guidance and support at key transition points

These experiences are designed to build confidence, increase motivation and support pupils in securing aspirational next steps.

Ensuring Equity and High Expectations

The Trust is committed to ensuring that careers opportunities are accessible to all pupils, regardless of background or circumstance. Schools are supported to remove barriers and ensure that disadvantaged pupils and those with additional needs have equal access to high‑quality careers experiences.

Careers education across the Trust is underpinned by high expectations, enabling pupils to see a wide range of futures as achievable.

Message from the Trust Careers Lead

Careers – How We Measure Impact

Across Shires MAT, we evaluate the impact of our careers programme to ensure that all pupils benefit from high‑quality, meaningful and aspirational experiences.

We measure impact through:

  • Participation and reach – monitoring engagement in careers activities across all phases, ensuring equitable access for disadvantaged and SEND pupils
  • Pupil voice – gathering feedback on confidence, aspiration and understanding of future pathways
  • Quality of encounters – reviewing the range and relevance of employer, FE and HE encounters
  • Progression and destinations – analysing post‑16 and post‑18 pathways to ensure pupils secure positive and ambitious next steps

This information is reviewed at school and Trust level to continually improve careers provision and ensure it supports pupils’ long‑term success.
