Sport & Health Vision Statement

Our Trust Approach to Sport

Sport plays a vital role in promoting physical wellbeing, confidence, teamwork and resilience. Across Shires MAT, we believe that all pupils should have opportunities to participate in sport, experience competition and develop lifelong positive attitudes towards health and physical activity.

Our Personal Experiences Team works with schools to ensure a broad, inclusive and ambitious sports offer across the Trust.

What Pupils Experience Across the Trust

Across Trust schools, pupils have opportunities to:

  • Take part in competitive and non‑competitive sporting activities
  • Represent their school and Trust in events and festivals
  • Develop leadership skills through roles such as captains, coaches and officials
  • Experience sport that builds confidence, perseverance and teamwork

Trust‑wide events enable pupils to connect with others beyond their own schools, strengthening a sense of belonging and shared identity.

Inclusion and Participation

We are committed to ensuring that sport is inclusive and accessible, enabling all pupils — including those with SEND or additional needs — to participate meaningfully. Sport is promoted as a positive, supportive experience that celebrates effort, improvement and teamwork as much as performance.

Message from the Trust Sports Lead:

Sport – How We Measure Impact

The Trust measures the impact of sport through both participation and personal development outcomes. Our focus is on inclusion, confidence and wellbeing as well as performance.

We evaluate impact through:

  • Participation data – tracking involvement in clubs, competitions and Trust events, including wider participation beyond traditional teams
  • Inclusion measures – ensuring pupils from all backgrounds and abilities are represented and supported
  • Pupil wellbeing and engagement – using pupil voice and feedback to understand confidence, enjoyment and sense of belonging
  • Leadership development – monitoring opportunities for pupils to lead, coach or officiate

This ensures that sport across Shires MAT contributes positively to pupils’ physical health, character development and confidence.
